Laissez Les Bon Ton Roulette!!!

Jackson Square, in the Vieux Carre (French Quarter),
New Orleans, January 3, 2009

We left Orlando on the morning of Friday, January 2, 2009, and drove all day to New Orleans. That was not a short drive (to say the least - about 650 miles). We stayed at the La Quinta on I-10, spent a rainy Saturday, January 3rd, exploring the French Quarter, before heading home on Sunday, January 4th.

This was Daddy's little side trip. We haven't been to New Orleans in many years, and he had been curious about how they rebuilt after Katrina. (Or, at least, that was his excuse to plan a stop there...)

The mighty Mississippi River greets you when you get to the French Quarter
especially on a foggy and rainy (though very mild) winter day...

We wandered around the French Quarter looking at
all the sights that are uniquely New Orleans...

For lunch, we just had to stop at the famous Central Grocery
for one of the famous muffuletta sandwiches that they invented...

Of course, Daddy couldn't pass up dragging everyone to see another big pretty church!!! And they don't get much bigger or prettier than St. Louis Cathedral in the French Quarter...

No trip to the French Market would be complete
with getting some beignets at Cafe DuMond...

One more thing that just says New Orleans is still alive and kicking...
The streetcars on St. Charles...
