Day 5 of the cruise brought us
to our second destination:
While Jamaica has some beautiful scenery and blue, clear water, it had it's
dirty sides too — with beggars, stoned-looking people and crowded,
dirty streets everywhere that we went.
But Grand Cayman was pretty much like paradise. The
water was even more blue and crystal clear, the streets were clean, the people were
polite and friendly, and we just felt safe and comfortable everywhere that we went!!!
The waters off of Grand Cayman are fairly shallow,
so the ship had to dock off shore. They had small tender boats to ferry us to
Georgetown and back to the ship...
For our shore excursion in Grand Cayman,
we chose the Coral Reef & Stingray Safari...
First we swam with the stingrays...
You have to kiss a stingray to get 7 years of good luck.
(Or at least to give the locals a good laugh at how they got the silly tourists
to kiss a stingray again)...
And, yes, John did it too...
Finally, we snorkled at the coral reef...
Our guide — the tall guy with the worst job in the world - he has to
live in paradise and go snorkeling in crystal clear blue water every day —
oh, the inhumaity — grabbed some large conk shells while everyone watched. He took the
meat out (to make conk fritters for dinner that night). A few of our brave (or maybe drunk) fellow
tourists actually ate some of the raw conk parts. No, we weren't that brave...
You know how you visit some places and think
If I ever win the lottery, I'm going to live here...
If we ever win the lottery, we're moving to Grand Cayman!!!
